Aston Martin F1’s Lance Stroll notes progress, emphasizing the execution of a rejuvenated strategy.
Lance Stroll Admits Aston Martin F1’s Development Programme Did Not Go as Planned After a Strong Start to the 2023 Season
Aston Martin scored 68 points in the first half of this year, which is just over a third of what they managed to secure in the first 12 races of the previous season.
“We were there at the start of last year,” Stroll stated.
“I don’t think we were completely there, we weren’t in a position to win races last year, but we had a quick car with several podiums, and plenty of top 5 finishes and all that.”
The team began to regress during the latter half of last year and found themselves behind the top four teams in the mid-pack.
“I think ultimately, we took a wrong turn in terms of development philosophy. We went down the wrong path and gradually realized it. It’s now about changing course and giving it time to develop and to become good again by taking this different route.”
The team saw improved results at Silverstone, with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Stroll believes they are beginning to understand where they erred.
“We’ve done a lot of exploration and aerodynamic testing over the past 12 months. With every upgrade we brought, we didn’t see the benefits we were hoping for. But we’ve learned a lot, and now we are simply trying to execute the new plan, to address the issue and make the car much faster.”
