Aston Martin F1 battles through a challenging race, with Stroll and Alonso vocal about the team’s strategic missteps.
Lance Stroll clinched the tenth place point at the Hungarian Grand Prix, thanks to a flawlessly managed first stint. The Aston Martin F1 driver impressively stretched his soft tyres from the start for 14 laps, double that of other drivers who began the race on these compounds.
Despite this, the Canadian struggled to find satisfaction with his performance: “It was a very difficult race for us. We were quite slow. I had no grip and I was wearing out the tyres, which is never good here.”
Fernando Alonso also failed to score points and expressed his disappointment: “The strategy wasn’t right today. It’s easy to say after the race, but we stopped on the seventh lap and had 63 laps to go with a set of mediums and a set of hards. It was a bit optimistic, the pace wasn’t good and the strategy was not ideal.”
The two-time world champion hopes for improvements in upcoming races, despite a lack of further developments, as the team introduced a new package this weekend: “I hope so, this is only the first race with this package, and I hope we can learn from it.”
