Oscar Piastri’s performance in the Saudi GP showcases his race strategy and calm, marking a notable progression.
Oscar Piastri qualified fifth for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and crossed the finish line in fourth place. McLaren F1 Team Principal Andrea Stella stated this demonstrates the young driver’s advancement in race management and patience in his approach.
“Oscar’s race was an opportunity to capitalize on the strong result he achieved in qualifying,” Stella remarked. “He managed to gain a position in what was a very clean and solid race, steering clear of trouble, being fast but also patient when necessary.
“He didn’t become nervous or fret thinking, ‘I haven’t managed to overtake Hamilton, so I’ll push harder.’ In fact, at one point, he experienced a minor lock-up in a turn and made a few mistakes, but he remained calm and waited for the race to come to him.”
Stella isn’t surprised by Piastri’s progress in race management and emphasized the Australian’s significant potential: “We are very pleased, but not surprised, as we’ve spent a lot of time with Oscar.”
“We’ve looked at all the details, all the data, and we know his potential is very high. His consistency in races and mentally is very strong, and the way he stays calm and ensures he utilizes his full talent, I believe, is his most significant trait.”
