Stella on Hamilton at Ferrari: Excitement Now, Pressure Ahead

McLaren’s Andrea Stella reflects on Hamilton’s Ferrari debut, praising its excitement but emphasizing results will define long-term success.

Andrea Stella, the McLaren F1 director, was impressed by Lewis Hamilton’s debut at Ferrari. The Italian admits that his status as a former Ferrari member and privileged observer of Formula 1 makes this new partnership exciting.

“Observing from afar, I can say that, as things stand—at least from the way it has been reported—it was a good introduction for Lewis at Ferrari,” said Stella.

“To be honest, as a Formula 1 fan and having spent 15 years at Ferrari, I was personally excited to witness something historic for Formula 1: a seven-time world champion joining Ferrari, one of the sport’s most historic teams.”

However, the Italian notes that this phase is important, but the duo’s results will be key: “I think Ferrari and Hamilton have handled the situation very well, but ultimately—and I’m sure they know this perfectly—what matters is what happens on track.”

“So, you know, after the initial excitement, I’m sure they’ll focus on proper preparation, and on our side, we’ll try to make their life a little more difficult.”
