Norris Leads McLaren to Consecutive Wins, Stella Elated

23/09/2024

McLaren F1 celebrates a pivotal moment with back-to-back wins, setting the stage for a promising season finish.

Following Oscar Piastri’s victory in Baku, McLaren F1 dominated the double-header by clinching a win in Singapore with Lando Norris, delighting team principal Andrea Stella.

“A fantastic evening in Singapore with a resounding victory for Lando, and Oscar managing to gain some positions to finish in third place. Securing two consecutive wins is another significant milestone for us,” Stella stated.

“The car was strong throughout the weekend, making us optimistic for the rest of the season. We’re increasing our lead in the constructors’ championship, and Lando is closing the gap with Max in the drivers’ championship race.”

When asked about the ease with which Norris won, Stella expressed a desire for more of the same: “I hope we’ll have a few more like this in the next six races. Lando fully deserved it; honestly, he was very fast all weekend.”

“I think on Saturday, he was very cautious in his Q3 lap; we thought that pushing 100%, we could have gone even faster. So, everything came together this weekend. It won’t be this easy in the upcoming races, but it’s very promising.”

“And it’s equally promising that Oscar found a way to outperform both Mercedes and return to the podium. A lot of points taken for the championship, and certainly for the drivers’ championship that remains up for grabs. The mission is underway.”

Norris hit the wall several times, which did not reassure his team: “Zak (Brown) and I joked that he might have been checking if we were awake on the pit wall or something like that. Lando didn’t need to do that; we were fully alert.”

“I think these kinds of tracks are very tricky. They demonstrate how crucial it is to be 100% focused, to manage your tires, because a brake lock-up can happen at any moment, or a deviation from the line. Fortunately, there were no consequences, just a bit of a thrill, and we were able to get back into the rhythm.”

As is his custom, the Italian also thanked McLaren’s supporters: “I would like to take this opportunity once again to thank everyone at McLaren and Mercedes HPP for the incredible work they’ve done to provide such a fast car.”

“I would also like to thank our partners and our fans for standing with us in this journey. We will take the time to celebrate our achievements in Singapore before focusing as of this Monday on the upcoming triple-header of races.”
