Stella Accuses Red Bull of Crafting a Winning Illusion

Red Bull’s Fast Cars and Faster Narratives, Says Stella

McLaren boss Andrea Stella says Red Bull spins stories to make dominance seem miraculous, distracting from their true technical superiority.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella isn’t buying into what he calls Red Bull’s “miracle” storyline, and he thinks others shouldn’t either.

According to Stella, Red Bull has a knack not only for building fast cars and racing them effectively, but also for shaping the public perception around their performance.

“Red Bull are incredibly good at making fast cars, outstanding at driving them, and honestly, they’re just as skilled at building a narrative that suits them,” he said.

His comments come just after Max Verstappen secured his third pole position in six races this season, despite repeated claims from Christian Horner and Helmut Marko that Red Bull shouldn’t be dominating.

“They take every opportunity to stay competitive. Sometimes that means creating a narrative like: ‘We’re pulling off miracles here, others should be winning every session, every qualifying, every race.’ But that’s just a storyline from some of our rivals. We read it, then turn the page and focus on ourselves,” Stella added.

He made it clear that McLaren, and drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, aren’t letting outside talk distract them.

“When we focus on ourselves, we focus on data, on facts, and on what needs improvement,” he said. “There’s a lot to work on. But I also look at what Lando and Oscar are doing, and they’re performing with real consistency. So credit to Red Bull, not just for their cars, but for how they manage every aspect of competition, even off the track.”
