Steiner might retake RB F1 with the help of a major investor

Amidst a flurry of rumors, Gunther Steiner is reportedly preparing a bid for Red Bull’s second F1 team.

Since losing his long-standing role at the head of Haas F1 during the winter due to disagreements with team owner Gene Haas, Steiner has remained present in the F1 paddock.

His official role has been that of a consultant for various television networks, while also negotiating a deal to become ambassador for the upcoming Miami GP.

But sources close not only to Steiner but also to Red Bull, where he once served as Director of Technical Operations, claim that the Italian-American is now working on a new potential F1 project.

Steiner has reportedly found a major investor (a very important multinational whose name is still unknown) who is keen to enter Formula 1. The team Steiner has in mind is not Alpine, whose head Bruno Famin insists that the Renault-owned and struggling team is “absolutely not for sale,” but RB F1. A takeover bid has already been made.

Red Bull’s second F1 team, recently renamed RB F1, could potentially be for sale. Dr. Helmut Marko admitted less than a week ago that there are “many interested parties” willing to buy it, if the Thai branch of the group decides to part with it.

“Ultimately, it’s a decision for the shareholders. The price is high for a team, but nothing is decided yet,” he said.

As for Steiner, he did not deny it but emphasized that he “is not interested in running a team on the same terms as Haas.”

“I’ve spent so many years in F1 that I want to do more than just participate and score points occasionally. I really want to race to try and win eventually.”

“I will not come back just to manage a team if I don’t have that opportunity.”

Red Bull has invested heavily in its second team to finish sixth this year, which will increase its revenue and thus its market value.

Andretti F1 could be the designated buyer but Red Bull’s conditions for selling the team would include using the new Red Bull-Ford power unit from 2026 to 2030, hiring a Red Bull junior driver, and continuing to use Red Bull’s wind tunnel.
