Steiner Firm on Critique of Schumacher’s Skills

Steiner reiterates his criticisms of Mick Schumacher, emphasizing his right to express personal opinions.

Gunther Steiner refuses to retract his recent comments about his former Haas F1 driver, Mick Schumacher.

He had stated that he would not advise Alpine to hire the 25-year-old German, which angered Ralf Schumacher.

The former F1 driver is currently refusing to appear on screen with Steiner, who is also a consultant for the German channel RTL.

“I stand by my words,” Steiner says regarding the controversy.

“I never attack anyone directly and I have nothing negative to say about Mick or Ralf. But when asked what I would do as a team boss in a certain situation, I answer honestly.”

“Some things have also been taken out of context by the German press. But I give everyone the right to have their own opinion and I do so myself. I don’t change my mind because someone else doesn’t like it.”

Steiner is also at the center of legal action with and against his former employer, Haas F1.

The 59-year-old did not wish to comment on the ongoing lawsuits, merely stating: “I am still in touch with some people and I get along very well with Nico Hulkenberg.”

“But I don’t wake up in the morning to follow what’s going on there. Thanks to my previous relationships, I obviously have a better understanding of the team, but it’s no longer my full-time job that takes up all my time every day.”

“The car is a bit more competitive this year than last year, which has always been the main goal and that makes me happy, also for the team itself.”
