Valtteri Bottas secured 16th at the Italian GP, pushing his car to the limits amid evident performance issues.
Valtteri Bottas finished 16th at the Italian Grand Prix, and the Stake F1 driver had hoped for better, even though the lack of pace from his car was evident from qualifying. He believes he did everything possible to secure a good result.
“We opted for a one-stop strategy, starting on the hard compound, to try something different and hope for some luck with the timing of a possible safety car,” Bottas stated.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t really work out for us, but I think it was worth trying. Looking back at how the race unfolded, I wouldn’t have done anything differently: we gained some positions on the track, reaching 16th on merit, but that really was the maximum we could achieve.”
“We didn’t make huge progress in terms of pace, our weekend started well, but we couldn’t keep up the pace or make much improvement. It was certainly a better weekend than Zandvoort. We have a lot of work ahead of us to take a further step.”
Guanyu Zhou finished 18th and noted some progress, though the Swiss team is still far from the mark: “Our pace today wasn’t high enough to bring us closer to the points, especially in a smooth race, without interruptions or major contacts.”
“Even though our pace has clearly improved from last weekend at Zandvoort, we are lagging in terms of performance compared to our direct competitors.”
“This weekend, we saw some improvement in single-lap pace, but it’s clear we need to find the car’s balance point and execute a flawless weekend to achieve the best possible result.”
“Rather than relying on luck, our goal as a team is to keep our heads down and continue to work hard to find those few tenths that will bring us closer to the top 10.”
