Bottas, Zhou Seek Monaco Gains

25/05/2024

Stake F1 struggles with pace but remains optimistic for Monaco. Bottas and Zhou are determined to seize every opportunity in the challenging circuit.

The Stake F1 team did not run on soft tires during the second free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix. The team saved an extra set of soft tires for qualifying, leaving Valtteri Bottas second-to-last on the first day.

“We used a set of soft tires in FP1 because we thought it would rain in FP2, and we’ve saved one for FP3. We seemed to lack a bit of pace on the medium tires, but it’s alright,” Bottas said.

“It seemed fine today. I was confident in the first session. We reverted to older parts for safety reasons, but we should be in better shape tomorrow. There are opportunities, so we must stay positive!”

Guanyu Zhou clocked the 20th and final time for the same reasons as his teammate’s second-to-last place: “I hoped FP2 would be wetter since we used the soft tires in FP1. We don’t really know where we stand, but we’ll keep working to find a few tenths.”

“We’ll try to get into the right window. It’s not easy, but it seemed better in FP2 in that regard. I need to find more performance on my side because I think the car has it, and we’ll be in the fight.”

Zhou hit the barrier at Sainte Devote without too much damage: “I didn’t miss the braking point, I had a big snap on acceleration. I’m happy I managed the situation to minimize the damage, but I guess that’s Monaco.”
