Bottas edges closer to points, buoyed by Stake F1’s promising performance at Monza.
Valtteri Bottas enjoyed a positive day at Monza, clinching fifth in the first practice session and finishing 11th by day’s end. The Stake F1 driver is cautiously optimistic, noting the track suits his car better than Zandvoort did.
“A slight smile! But it’s only Friday, just practice, so I don’t want to get too excited. However, we’re in a better position on this circuit that less accentuates the car’s weaknesses,” Bottas remarked.
“It was a straightforward day; we focused on balancing and still need to make progress for tomorrow. The soft tyres are delicate here, so they weren’t consistent over long stints, but for a single lap, it’s a solid base.”
Is he closer to scoring points than at any other time this season? The Finn likes to think so: “Based on today, probably. By tomorrow, everyone will have improved and we must too. But if we make the right advancements, we’ll be closer and in the fight.”
Guanyu Zhou, unfortunately, had a more mundane day, recording the slowest time in the second practice session: “They’ve done a good job with the bumps; the track has more grip. The first session went well; the second was tougher with brake issues, and we need to ensure they work.”
“There’s a lot we can fine-tune before tomorrow, and I think we can perform better than last weekend. In terms of settings, we have several opportunities, and we’re focusing on data analysis.”
