Stake F1 team struggles with speed and lack of upgrades, impacting their Q2 qualification hopes.
Valtteri Bottas received a drafting boost from Guanyu Zhou during the qualifying round in Baku. Unfortunately, this assistance did not enable the Stake F1 driver to advance to Q2, and he acknowledges a persistent lack of performance, while also lamenting a continued absence of upgrades since the start of the season.
“A fine example of teamwork, thanks to Zhou for that; he gave me a boost at the end of the straight, but it wasn’t enough to reach Q2. We’ve made some progress with the car since yesterday, but it still lacks performance. We’ve made it easier to drive, but it’s not sufficient. I did everything I could,” Bottas affirmed, poised to give his all in the race.
“Nothing to lose! We will attempt to extract every possible performance from the car, and we are aware that there are no developments for this or the next race. We’ll close the gap with upcoming updates, but this is where we are, and we must try to make the best of it.”
Guanyu Zhou was doomed to start from the back of the grid due to penalties following component changes to his engine, so he endeavored to assist his teammate in reaching Q2.
“This morning, after learning about the issue and having to change the engine, we practiced for this. I had no expectations, but we wanted to get my teammate into Q2. I did a good job with the drafting, but the car lacked performance,” stated Zhou, who nevertheless aims to outperform the Finn.
“I believe the respect is still there, but currently, we are both fighting for our futures and want to give our all. I hoped to avoid any issues, but I encountered them, and it was a better opportunity than in Singapore to take a penalty. But this sums up our season, which is indeed challenging.”
