Ricciardo Clinches Spa Point After Russell’s Exit

28/07/2024

Ricciardo secures a crucial point at Spa, capitalizing on George Russell’s disqualification in a dramatic twist.

Daniel Ricciardo earned a point following the disqualification of George Russell in Belgium. The RB F1 driver was not displeased with his performance, although he lamented the superior pace of some rivals, notably Alpine.

“I’m quite pleased as I feel we executed a very good race with two pit stops, but unfortunately others did the same and I think they had a bit more pace than us, so it wasn’t enough to be rewarded,” Ricciardo reflected before inheriting tenth place through a post-race decision.

“Esteban [Ocon] was generally a bit quicker and had fresher tyres. Thus, I am disappointed with our final result, as we did our utmost to maintain tenth place in the closing laps.”

“It has been a positive weekend and I leave Spa satisfied and fulfilled, which is gratifying as we approach the summer break. Post-break, I am keen to return to Zandvoort and we aim to continue the momentum from the last few races.”

Yuki Tsunoda finished 16th after starting from the back and was unable to make an impact in the pack: “We struggled to find the pace this weekend, and also during today’s race.”

“I did not feel very comfortable and it appears something happened based on what I’ve heard from my engineers post-race, so we will sit down together and go through the data.”

“The strategy did not work out for us today, but we knew it would be challenging given our starting position. We will continue to push as a team and do everything we can to hold our position in the constructors’ standings, as the midfield remains tight.”
