Smedley Backs Hamilton to Revive Ferrari’s Glory Days

Hamilton and Ferrari: A Partnership to Redefine Success?

19/01/2025

Engineer Rob Smedley believes Hamilton’s move to Ferrari could transform the Scuderia, potentially elevating the team to unprecedented success.

Rob Smedley, former Ferrari engineer, is thrilled to see Lewis Hamilton join the Scuderia this year. The Briton praises the seven-time world champion’s contributions to F1 and beyond and is eager to see what he will achieve with his new team.

“I’m a big fan of Lewis. I love him, I love what he does for the sport and what he does outside the sport,” Smedley said on the Red Flags podcast. “I’m very happy he’s going to Ferrari. I think it’s a great thing.”

“It’s strange for all of us when a driver of this caliber switches teams after so much success with another team. But we adjust quickly. Within the first two months of the season, he’ll be a Ferrari driver, and it will feel like he’s always been one.”

Smedley also emphasized the positive impact of the move on Formula 1: “It’s a great thing for the sport. There are no negatives, no downsides. If he can win his eighth championship as a Ferrari driver, it’s a fairy tale.”

“Lewis will take the team to the next level, making it a more consistent outfit. His departure from Mercedes has also paved the way for another great talent to enter the sport. I’m excited about that. Kimi Antonelli is a very strong young talent. I see no downsides, only advantages. I’m glad Lewis made this choice.”
