Shanghai Woes: Leclerc Blames Himself, Hopes for Miracle

Leclerc Admits Struggles in Shanghai: “The Problem Is Me”

22/03/2025

Charles Leclerc opens up after a tough Sprint in China, admitting he’s the main issue and hoping for a miracle turnaround.

Leclerc didn’t hold back after Saturday’s F1 Sprint in Shanghai. Despite Ferrari taking the win and showing strong pace, the Monegasque driver was brutally honest about his own performance — and admitted he’s not getting the most out of the car.

“The potential is clearly there, but that’s not enough for me,” Leclerc told Canal+. “I’m just not using it to the fullest. I’ve never felt comfortable since the first practice session, and to be honest, this is a track where I’ve always struggled.”

True to form, Leclerc was self-critical. He acknowledged that the car is working — just not for him.

“That’s not an excuse though. I need to find solutions, and right now, I haven’t found any,” he said. “We took a different setup direction from Lewis so far, and we’ll try moving closer to his for the race.”

Once again, Leclerc was refreshingly direct. He admitted he’s not on the same level as his teammate this weekend and doubts he’ll be able to close the gap by race day.

“I’m not expecting any miracles. Honestly, the biggest issue this weekend is me. I’m not comfortable in the car. We’ll try to pull off something special in qualifying — but it’s going to be tough.”
