Sergio Perez is finalizing a Ferrari WEC deal, targeting Hypercar races like Le Mans after weeks of advanced negotiations.
The next chapter of Sergio Perez’s motorsport career could unfold very quickly, according to multiple sources in Mexico and Italy.
Following a mutual agreement between the Mexican driver and Red Bull to terminate his contract with immediate effect, Perez is set to receive between €20 million and €27 million, reportedly covering the full value of his 2025 and 2026 contract.
His father, Antonio Perez Garibay, insists that Perez will not return to Formula 1 just to make up the numbers.
“I’m certain the door to Formula 1 is not closed for Checo if something very good and significant comes along. I don’t think Checo will join a team like Sauber or Haas. Either he signs with a top team, or the door will close. No IndyCar, no NASCAR. I’m 100% sure of that.”
“That’s why I’m telling you, if there isn’t a top team, then Checo has already run his last race. Everything in life has a beginning and an end, and you have to learn to live with that.”
“For now, what Checo needs to do is focus on his family, because it’s been many years, many sacrifices, and it had to end someday, and that day is today.”
However, sources close to Perez revealed that the Mexican, sensing the changing winds, has been negotiating for several weeks with a high-level World Endurance Championship team, Ferrari, in the Hypercar category (the top tier).
Perez’s plan is to compete in select key WEC races, including Le Mans. He is reportedly finalizing an agreement with Ferrari, marking a return to his roots, as he was once part of the Ferrari Driver Academy before entering F1 with Sauber.
