Helmut Marko sees Sebastian Vettel as the perfect successor, bringing fresh leadership and vision to Red Bull’s motorsport program.
Helmut Marko believes that Sebastian Vettel would be the perfect candidate to succeed him as Red Bull’s motorsport consultant. As head of the driver academy and responsible for overseeing decisions in the brand’s F1 program, Marko sees the German driver as his ideal successor.
Should Vettel show interest in the role, Marko envisions a strategy shift, with the four-time World Champion bringing a more modern, empathetic approach than Marko’s traditional style.
“I think he would be the ideal person to take over from me,” Marko stated, though he is not planning to step down anytime soon. “No, that’s not the case. But it’s clear that, at some point, you can’t keep doing this, especially because of your age. These trips are no small matter,” he added.
Marko acknowledges that Vettel could bring great value to Red Bull, particularly with his experience in managing junior programs. “Of course, it would be great if someone like Sebastian took over. He’s already involved with karting for young girls in Saudi Arabia, and on the other hand, he has vast leadership experience from his time in Formula 1,” Marko said.
According to Marko, Vettel is eager to stay involved in motorsport, and this position would fit perfectly with his environmental goals. He believes Vettel wouldn’t need much time to adapt to the role. “I don’t think he’d need a year. Two races would be enough for him to get up to speed.”
“It’s a new approach, and I think Sebastian has found himself. He knows what he wants to do in the future, and above all, that’s motorsport. While he may own a forest in Austria and have his own hunting grounds, it’s possible to balance all of that.”
