Eight of Michael Schumacher‘s watches, including two customized by Jean Todt, sold for over €4 million.

The sale of a portion of Michael Schumacher’s personal watch collection raised over 4 million euros.

Christie’s highly publicized auction in Geneva had a rocky start, with Bloomberg reporting that the company’s website may have been hacked.

The auction was thus postponed to Tuesday “for security reasons” – and it finally took place, featuring a range of highly customized Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and FP Journe watches.

Eight of the F1 legend’s watches sold – totaling just over 4 million euros.

Two of the watches sold had been specially customized for Schumacher by his friend and former Ferrari boss, Jean Todt.

The highlight, a Vagabondage 1 from F.P Journe, features a unique dial adorned with the Ferrari emblem and 7 ‘V’s symbolizing Michael Schumacher’s seven F1 World Championship titles as well as his helmet. It was estimated between 1 and 2 million euros and sold for 1.53 million euros.

The other watch is an Audemars Piguet commissioned for Schumacher by Todt for Christmas 2003. It bears a dedication to his six titles at the time and incorporates his red racing helmet from that era. This watch was won for 425,000 euros.

“These results demonstrate the passion of international collectors for exceptional timepieces,” said Rémi Guillemin, the European head of Christie’s.
