Mick Schumacher remains open to a Cadillac F1 seat, confirming he will explore the opportunity as he targets a full-time return in 2026.
Formula 1 and the FIA have officially sealed Cadillac’s entry into the sport for 2026, with a joint announcement made on Friday evening.
As soon as the news hit the headlines, a fresh wave of speculation emerged over who would drive the cars, initially powered by Ferrari, next year.
Mick Schumacher, who attended the Race of Champions in Sydney this weekend, believes he should be a contender.
“At this stage, everything is an option,” said the German, also confirming that he would “reach out to the people in charge” of the American team.
“As I’ve said in various interviews, I think I have what it takes for Formula 1. But we have to wait and see what happens. The year is still long, and the goal is to return in 2026.”
Schumacher also thanked Mika Hakkinen for his recent kind words about him.
“Of course, it’s nice to hear that from Mika. He knows the sport very well, has many interests, and manages drivers.”
Current Andretti IndyCar driver Colton Herta is the clear favorite for the first seat—a fact openly acknowledged by Cadillac F1 officials.
However, Aston Martin F1 simulator driver Dani Juncadella believes it would be a major injustice if Herta’s IndyCar rival, Alex Palou, were not also considered by Cadillac.
“If Palou isn’t in the running for one of those seats in 2026, I’m going to set X on fire. And every seat and brand I belong to is in danger because I’m not responsible for my keyboard’s actions,” Juncadella joked. “At least I’m giving you a warning.”
