Mick Schumacher remains committed to WEC success while keeping his lifelong Formula 1 dream alive, ensuring focus on both motorsport ambitions.
Mick Schumacher insists that his “dream” of returning to Formula 1 remains intact, even though he feels relieved not to be a full-time reserve driver in 2025.
The 25-year-old son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher has been replaced as Mercedes’ reserve driver by the more experienced Valtteri Bottas for this season.
Mick says this doesn’t bother him, as he still has a full schedule in Hypercar, in the WEC, with Alpine in Endurance.
“2024 was obviously a very difficult year. We had many consecutive weekends where we went from one race to another.”
“Even if people might say that a reserve driver doesn’t do much, the days were still long. I was quite tired by the end of the year. From that perspective, no regrets, although I learned a lot.”
Schumacher will therefore focus 100% on racing this year.
“It’s more relaxed in that sense. I can simply take the time to drive more in the simulator and help Alpine further with car development.”
“I’m delighted to continue being part of Alpine’s Endurance journey. We had an excellent first year together, which at times exceeded our expectations, and I’m determined to make sure the program’s performance improves even further in this second season. We’ve identified areas where we want to push, so I’m really looking forward to starting my second Endurance campaign.”
“I obviously had to adapt, moving from single-seaters to sharing a prototype, but I realized that managing traffic was an even bigger adjustment. I really enjoyed that challenge. There’s always something happening during the race, which is probably the best aspect of Endurance racing for me.”
The former Haas driver, however, insists that he hasn’t entirely given up on his F1 “dream.”
“My dream is my dream, and it’s still alive when I have time to think about it. But when I’m in the car or within the WEC environment, my focus is 100% there.”
