Sauber enters Jeddah aiming to bounce back strong, hoping the C45 thrives on the tight and high-speed Saudi circuit.
Sauber F1 heads into the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix aiming to build on a promising start to the season, as the team continues its push through the midfield. After a tricky opening round in Bahrain, Nico Hülkenberg remains hopeful that Jeddah’s high-speed layout will suit the C45 better.
“Jeddah is always a tough challenge — it’s fast, narrow, and there’s no margin for error,” Hülkenberg explained. “But we believe the track characteristics should play more to our strengths than Bahrain did. The key will be to hit the ground running and dial in the setup from the first session.”
“Our focus will be on fine-tuning the balance and staying on top of the evolving track conditions, especially with the heat. If we can keep our execution clean, we’ll be in a good position to grab any opportunities that come our way.”
For Gabriel Bortoleto, Jeddah brings its own learning curve, but the young driver isn’t fazed.
“It’s a fast and technical track, but I raced here last year so I’ve got a feel for it,” said Bortoleto. “We’ve put in a lot of work to learn as much as possible early in the season. I’m focused on improving every session and delivering a competitive result. The goal is to keep moving forward and get everything we can out of the weekend.”
Team principal Jonathan Wheatley knows the Saudi circuit is a serious test — not just for the car, but for the entire team.
“As we close the chapter on Bahrain, we now look ahead to Jeddah, the final leg of this opening triple-header,” he said. “The Corniche circuit is one of the toughest on the calendar — it demands everything from the drivers and the car.”
“While recent results haven’t quite gone our way, the focus remains on maximizing every opportunity. We’re committed to extracting the most out of the C45, delivering a sharp operational performance, and putting ourselves in a position to fight for the best result possible.”
