With early-season success, Sauber and Hülkenberg aim to capitalize on momentum as the intense Sprint format challenges teams in Shanghai.
Sauber has kicked off 2025 in style! With 6 points secured in Australia—more than the entire 2024 season—thanks to Nico Hülkenberg’s impressive P7, the team arrives in China with momentum.
The upgrades introduced in Melbourne delivered results, and while the changing weather conditions played a role, the C45 showed real potential. Team principal Mattia Binotto is encouraged but remains cautious ahead of Shanghai.
Binotto: “We Still Need to Improve”
“Melbourne was a strong start, but now we must focus on Shanghai. The changing conditions helped us score points, but to remain competitive long-term, we still need to develop the car.”
With the Sprint format this weekend, there’s no room for error—only one practice session before qualifying. Preparation and quick decision-making will be crucial to fighting for a top-10 finish.
Hülkenberg Ready to Seize the Opportunity
After his strong result in Australia, Nico Hülkenberg is aiming for another points finish in China:
“Sprint weekends are intense. Every session matters, and you have to react quickly. I’ve always enjoyed racing in Shanghai, and the goal is to be competitive from the start and maximize every opportunity.”
With experience on his side and a car showing progress, the German could once again spring a surprise.
Bortoleto Faces the Sprint Challenge
For Gabriel Bortoleto, Sauber’s rookie, the learning curve continues after an encouraging debut—despite a late-race crash. While he outqualified Hülkenberg in Australia, the Sprint format leaves no room for adaptation.
“Australia was a great learning experience. Shanghai will be a real challenge, but I’m ready. I’ve spent a lot of time on the simulator, and the key will be maximizing every lap to be competitive throughout the weekend.”
China Will Be the Real Test
Sauber has made an encouraging start, but the Shanghai Grand Prix will reveal whether the team can consistently fight for points. With a focus on performance optimization and execution, the challenge is set.
All eyes on this weekend to see if Sauber can keep the momentum going!
