Hülkenberg Positive Despite Struggles in Miami Sprint

Limited prep and tyre wear didn’t stop Hülkenberg from delivering a solid P11 in Miami’s tightly contested Sprint session.

Nico Hülkenberg will line up 11th for the Miami Grand Prix Sprint after a solid qualifying performance. The Sauber driver believes there was potential for more, but a tricky practice session earlier in the day held him back. Still, he remains upbeat about the result.

“I’m fairly happy, to be honest. It was tight out there and free practice wasn’t ideal. I flat-spotted a tire early on and only got four laps in, which isn’t great prep for qualifying. But all in all, it was decent and there were some positives,” Hülkenberg said.

Looking ahead to the race, the German admitted that tire wear is still a concern for Sauber, especially after struggles in Jeddah.

“We’ll see how the race goes. We know we’ve had issues in the past, but this track is different. Every day we come here and try to get the most out of it, and that’s the plan again.”

Meanwhile, Gabriel Bortoleto will start 19th after a costly error on his final flying lap. Unlike some of his rivals, the Brazilian didn’t miss his lap due to traffic or timing—he just pushed a bit too hard.

“The lap was good until the final corner. I locked up and ran wide, which ruined it. I was going to improve, but only slightly. It’s a shame because it was a strong lap overall. Now we move on—there’s still a lot to fight for,” he said.
