Sauber F1 continues its upward trajectory after a stellar Canadian Grand Prix, with Nico Hülkenberg scoring again and the team gaining ground.
Sauber F1 secured two more points in Canada thanks to a very solid performance by Nico Hülkenberg. These results confirm the progress made through recent upgrades and have pleased team principal Jonathan Wheatley.
“The atmosphere within the team after an exceptional performance in Canada is fantastic,” Wheatley stated.
“Both drivers had a good start, and Nico, in particular, showed great control of the race and excellent racecraft from the very first lap, staying just far enough back to avoid the initial chaos and seizing the opportunity to gain two positions.”
“After that, he delivered a calm and intelligent drive. Starting on medium tyres, our switch to the hard compound proved to be the right call. This ultimately paid off as Nico finished eighth under the safety car, securing more points for the team in back-to-back races following Barcelona — a major achievement and a milestone we had not reached since Canada in 2023.”
The Briton also praised Gabriel Bortoleto’s performance and the team’s overall progress: “Gabriel had a more difficult stint, starting from the back, but still put together an excellent run on the hard tyres, battling graining, traffic and a demanding race to finish in a respectable 14th place.”
“The team once again delivered an excellent performance overall. Strategically, our decisions were sound, the pit crew executed flawless and efficient stops, and most importantly, we once again showed that our car is capable of fighting in the midfield.”
“Credit must also go to the Hinwil team: their hard work is beginning to pay off on track. Alongside Mattia Binotto, we have been delighted to build this momentum, and we are all eager to carry it forward into the European rounds.”
