Sauber kicked off the Australian GP with a solid showing, but Hülkenberg and Bortoleto remain cautious ahead of qualifying in Melbourne.
Nico Hülkenberg wrapped up the second free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix in eighth place, but he’s keeping expectations in check. While the first day in Melbourne brought some promising signs, the German isn’t ready to get ahead of himself just yet.
“It was a positive Friday, we gathered a lot of data to analyze. It wasn’t the easiest session, but in the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t bad over a single lap. Now, we need to see where we really stand compared to the others. Having feedback from both FP1 and FP2 helps us make progress,” he explained.
As for his chances in qualifying, Hülkenberg remains cautious: “I have no idea. Saying we’re confident would be a bit much. We’re taking things one step at a time, focusing on optimizing everything and keeping it clean on track. That’s our priority right now.”
Bortoleto Enjoys a Strong First Day
For Gabriel Bortoleto, his first full Grand Prix weekend got off to a great start. “It was a really good day, very positive. I’m happy with our work. FP2 was particularly useful for both cars, helping us figure out what will work best for tomorrow. I can’t wait to get back on track.”
Looking ahead, the Brazilian is determined but realistic: “I’ll do my best to put in a strong lap, and whatever happens, I’ll be satisfied. Today’s sessions were solid, and it’s tough to predict where we’ll be in qualifying, but I’m confident we can achieve good things.”
Sauber’s Friday may have been productive, but with qualifying just around the corner, both drivers are keeping their feet on the ground.
