Audi has finalized its acquisition of Sauber F1, transitioning from a minority stakeholder to full ownership, solidifying its Formula 1 ambitions.
Audi now officially controls the entirety of the Swiss Formula 1 team Sauber.
The German automaker’s intention to fully own the Hinwil-based team before a complete rebranding in 2026 was well-documented, but it has only been fully realized in recent days.
“The full acquisition of Sauber Holding AG by Audi AG was finalized as planned in January 2025,” a spokesperson confirmed.
“With this step, Audi has taken a significant milestone on its path to entering Formula 1 shortly after the start of the year. Audi previously held a minority stake in Sauber Holding AG.”
However, it is also well-known that late last year, Audi announced plans to sell part of the team to Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund. The deal is believed to involve transferring approximately 30% of the shares.
