Sargeant Waves Goodbye to F1 - Eyes IndyCar

Logan Sargeant Shifts Gears to IndyCar Test

24/09/2024

Logan Sargeant prepares for a new challenge as Meyer Shank Racing offers him his first IndyCar trial, marking his transition from Formula 1.

Meyer Shank Racing will offer Logan Sargeant, the former Williams Formula 1 driver, his first IndyCar trial.

The two-car team owned by Mike Shank and Jim Meyer confirmed to RACER that it would use its final evaluation test day to run Sargeant at the Thermal Club in California, the private track that will become a full championship event next season.

The 23-year-old American will thus be tested on a road course, not an oval, with 17 turns and 3.067 miles on November 19 in one of the team’s Honda-powered Dallara DW12s.

Sargeant competed in 37 F1 races for Williams before being replaced by Argentine Franco Colapinto in August, following months of speculation that the Floridian would not be retained by Williams for 2025. And he likely has no chance of returning to F1 given his performances.

Anticipating the change, Sargeant’s manager contacted several IndyCar teams in recent months to explore possible opportunities.

Despite the limited number of teams remaining with the ability to hire drivers at this stage of the year, Sargeant went to the Nashville Speedway for the season finale on September 15 to meet several teams. The time spent with Meyer and Shank proved beneficial as they were “impressed by Sargeant’s character”.
