Ferrari faces a tough battle as Sakhir’s mixed conditions cloud assessments. Vasseur insists only superior work will secure success in Melbourne.
Where does Ferrari stand before heading into the first Grand Prix of the season next week in Melbourne, Australia?
The Italian Formula 1 team, like its rivals, did not benefit from particularly favorable or consistent conditions in Sakhir, making it harder to draw as many conclusions about its SF-25 as in previous years.
Fred Vasseur acknowledges this without looking for excuses.
“It is very difficult to draw conclusions since every team experienced highs and lows.”
“So, we must not compare ourselves to others but focus on ourselves. The main priority is ensuring that what we saw on track matches our simulation expectations. It is also crucial that the drivers feel comfortable with the car’s balance and that reliability is there.”
“It is not enough to do good work; we must do better than the others. We will only get the answer in Melbourne.”
Sakhir also provided an opportunity for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to work together, handing over to each other in terms of driving and sharing feedback.
On this front, Vasseur is satisfied and dismisses any notion of a budding “bromance” despite the cordial exchanges between the two drivers.
“It is going very well; they are highly focused and motivated. There is great harmony. But there needs to be some rivalry between them. I don’t want them to be best friends. Not enemies either, but they are competitors above all. It must remain within that framework, where they constantly push to outperform each other. That’s what drives them. The mindset, in any case, is very positive and healthy.”
