Ferrari’s Resilience: Leclerc Salvages Points in Brazil

04/11/2024

Ferrari’s mixed results in Brazil reflect resilience as Leclerc salvages crucial points, keeping McLaren in check amidst Sainz’s struggles.

Ferrari had hoped to score more points in Brazil, but Carlos Sainz’s two off-track incidents, which forced him to start from the pits and later retire from the race, allowed McLaren F1 to regain an advantage. Scuderia director Frédéric Vasseur explained that Charles Leclerc’s result helped minimize the damage.

“We have mixed feelings because we managed to limit the damage in our fight with McLaren, but on the other hand, we should also have scored points with Carlos, not just Charles,” Vasseur said.

“With both drivers, the timing of the pit stops wasn’t ideal, and overall, we struggled with pace and getting the tires to the right temperature after each restart. At the last restart, Charles did well to get ahead of Lando (Norris) and George (Russell), but the Mercedes managed to overtake him again, and Charles had to defend against Lando.”

Ultimately, Leclerc scored ten points, and the Scuderia accumulated 116 points overall from the American triple-header, which reassures the team principal: “As his stint progressed, his tires improved, and he finished in 5th place.”

“This weekend was challenging, but considering the triple-header as a whole, we are still the team that scored the most points, which is a good way to approach the season’s final three races. We will do our best to keep the fight for the title open until Abu Dhabi.”
