Sainz's Bold Move Delays F1 Rivals' Plans

Sainz Embraces Selfish Stance in F1 Drama

Sainz admits prioritizing his needs in F1, causing delays for other drivers, focusing solely on timing adjustments.

Carlos Sainz has explained that he plans to be “more selfish” when deciding his F1 future, as he continues to stall the driver market.

Sainz is a key player in the market, awaiting his decision. Williams, Sauber/Audi, and Alpine F1 are all interested in Sainz for 2025 and beyond.

However, the Spaniard remains hopeful for an opening at Red Bull or Mercedes F1.

Sainz’s future will have a domino effect on the rest of the drivers seeking seats for next year.

If Sainz opts for Alpine, it could leave Williams open for Valtteri Bottas, for example.

Speaking before the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sainz acknowledged his impact on the driver market but explained why he must prioritize his own career.

“Yes, I’m aware of it, but at the same time, I don’t think it will change anyone else’s life, because I’m only changing the timing. I’m probably not changing anyone’s outcome, as all teams probably have their priorities and make their decisions based on each scenario now.”

“At the same time, this sport and this world have taught me to be a bit more selfish and to take care of myself, to make the decision I need to make whenever I need to and whenever I have all the options on the table and am ready to make the decision, and not to rush things if I don’t need to.”

Sainz also dismissed the criticisms from other drivers who would like to know more before the summer break.

“Yes, the teams have been very patient, and I thank them for that. But I’ve had to be patient too, so the other drivers need to be as well! It’s not like I’m the only one deciding this; I’ve also had to take my patience pill with other things in the past and have had to be in uncertainty as well.”

“At the same time, I thank everyone who has to wait while I make the decision.”

“What I really don’t understand is why the market is happening so early this year? Why is everyone in such a hurry when I remember it being decided during the summer holidays or in September, rarely in July?”

Sainz gave a sarcastic response when asked if he had “other options” for next year given the speculation around Sergio Perez’s future. Is a move to Red Bull possible?

“More options? Are there new teams in Formula 1? No, I don’t think I have more options. Maybe I’ve always been in discussions with them, maybe not. It’s a secret.”

In any case, Sainz is moving forward with Ferrari despite the uncertainty over 2025.

“It’s not easy to do the first half of the season not knowing where I’ll be driving next year. I think you drive better when your future is settled because you have a free mind. At the same time, I’ve done a good job and put in strong performances in this situation, so if there’s more potential, that’s even better!”

What is he finally expecting for this Hungarian GP?

“We’ve made some small modifications to the floor, and we hope this will help us address the recent issues we’ve encountered. We don’t know yet if it will help, but the team is working hard to turn the situation around as our rivals have developed their cars better than us, and we want to get back in the fight.”
