Williams has firmly denied claims that Carlos Sainz is racing with an incomplete 2025 car, calling the rumours baseless and misleading.
Williams Racing has officially dismissed growing speculation in Spanish media and online forums suggesting that Carlos Sainz isn’t driving a complete 2025-spec Formula 1 car this season.
Sainz, who joined Williams from Ferrari, impressed during post-season testing in Abu Dhabi and the single pre-season session in Bahrain. However, after a puzzling dip in performance at the Chinese Grand Prix, he admitted it was “one of the strangest performance drops of my career.”
That led to online theories claiming only one full 2025-spec FW47 exists — the one driven by Alex Albon. According to the rumors, Sainz’s car might still include older 2024 components, including a rebuilt chassis following a previous crash. Some even claimed a brand-new chassis was being prepared just for him.
Williams has firmly denied these claims.
A team spokesperson stated:
“The 2025 monocoque is an evolution of last year’s FW46, and both drivers are using the same spec. These are just typical conspiracy theories from social media and national outlets.”
They emphasized that both cars are fully identical, with no performance difference.
“The FW47 is exactly what we’ve presented — a step forward, aligned with our long-term vision for 2026.”
To further shut down doubts, Williams revealed they already have three FW47 chassis ready, meaning Sainz could switch to a spare in upcoming races — not because of any issue, but simply to silence speculation.
