Sainz Set for Early Williams Debut at Yas Marina

29/11/2024

Carlos Sainz will make his Williams F1 debut a day ahead of the Abu Dhabi test, driving at Yas Marina on Monday.

Sainz is set to make his F1 debut with Williams a day earlier than expected after leaving Ferrari.

Sainz has agreed to drive alongside Alex Albon from 2025, after losing his Ferrari seat to Lewis Hamilton. The Spanish driver has been granted permission by Scuderia team principal Fred Vasseur to test the FW46 during the traditional post-season test, which takes place on the Tuesday following the season finale.

However, Sainz will now make his debut with the Grove team 24 hours earlier, on Monday, December 9.

Williams has booked the Yas Marina circuit for the final of its two allocated filming days, allowing for 200 km of running—around 35 laps of the track in F1 configuration.

This will allow Sainz to integrate into his F1 car and make the most of the official test the following day.

Sainz will be joined by Luke Browning in the other car, dedicated to the young driver. Browning will also take part in EL1, replacing Alex Albon on Friday.
