Carlos Sainz described his Ferrari experience as extraordinary, but acknowledged the unique pressures and challenges that accompany driving for the Scuderia.
Carlos Sainz stated that being a Ferrari driver is a “very special experience” but admitted that “not everything is rosy and perfect.”
It is widely acknowledged in Formula 1 that being a Ferrari driver brings unique pressure, as the Scuderia is not only the sport’s oldest and most iconic team but also the one most closely watched by its passionate fans, both in Italy and worldwide.
The Spanish driver, now with Williams, has repeatedly expressed his love for Ferrari in recent months, while also acknowledging that things aren’t always perfect.
“Driving for Ferrari is a very special experience in a career.”
“It’s something that, even if I try to explain it to you, I don’t think I can. I’m not very good at explaining myself or expressing my feelings, but I can tell you it’s something very different from anything I’ve felt before, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of this experience.”
“Sometimes it’s challenging; there are aspects of being a Ferrari driver that are difficult as well. And I won’t lie, not everything is rosy and perfect.”
“So I’ll focus on the positives, such as the fact that every Grand Prix feels like a home race.”
“Everywhere you go, there are fans, tifosi, and you have the most supporters at almost every circuit – except maybe when we go to Zandvoort, where there are definitely more Dutch fans than Ferrari fans – but I think everywhere else in the world, it’s very special to know that everyone in the stands is somehow a Ferrari fan and wishes the best for Ferrari.”
“As for the more difficult aspects, we can certainly discuss them later, another time, to try to explain what’s challenging about being a Ferrari driver, but I don’t want to do that now, as the adventure has just ended, and there are no negative feelings about it.”
