Carlos Sainz criticized Ferrari’s mid-season woes but commended the team’s turnaround, delivering a competitive car by season’s end.
Carlos Sainz praised Ferrari’s efforts in transforming the SF-24 into a car capable of winning races and achieving one-twos by the end of the season. However, he detailed how, shortly before mid-season upgrades, the car had become disastrous to drive.
“I’m happy the car no longer bounces as much and is within the correct window, because that’s how a Formula 1 car should behave and operate,” Sainz stated. “What we had mid-season was unacceptable and impossible to drive.”
“The moment we created this, I was glad it stayed, because that’s how an F1 car should behave and perform. I’m pleased it turned out this way, as it gives us a much better platform to work with and simply makes the car more usable.”
Sainz admitted being critical of his team while observing McLaren’s rapid progress: “I think all teams faced a tough period in development this year. McLaren might be the only one that made everything they introduced work.”
“But I think all other teams on the grid struggled, and the same goes for us. I didn’t hold back and criticized the issues and aspects I didn’t like about this package. At the same time, I’m the first to praise the team’s recovery process from that point onward.”
“The way we embraced the situation and bounced back shows great team strength, and in that sense, we recovered very well and ended up in a strong position.”
