Horner Rules Out Sainz for Red Bull Amid Perez Rumors

08/11/2024

Christian Horner has ended speculation about Carlos Sainz possibly joining Red Bull next season, as doubts linger over Sergio Perez’s future.

Although Sainz has signed a multi-year deal with Williams starting in 2025, the sight of Red Bull’s director leaving the Williams hospitality at Interlagos reignited rumors. Some suggested talks to release young talent Franco Colapinto or even to bring Sainz on board.

Horner clarified: “Carlos Sainz will be a Williams driver next year. He’s an excellent driver, and his recent win in Mexico proves it. I’m confident he’ll bring a lot to the team.”

Asked about a possible Sainz transfer despite his commitment to Williams, Horner was categorical: “No, Carlos is committed to Williams and is not part of our plans for next year.”

Sainz himself also put an end to the rumors, affirming his commitment and motivation for Williams: “Williams is the team that believed in me from the start. They approached me a year ago, and it motivates me deeply. I know I won’t see immediate results in 2025, but I want to repay their trust and build something strong with them.”

Meanwhile, Red Bull continued to pursue Colapinto in Brazil, but a $20 million release demand appears to stall Horner.

Another rumor reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s executive advisor, might consider freeing Jack Doohan, set for 2025, to pair Colapinto with Pierre Gasly as early as next year. Some even hint at an imminent deal.

However, Maria Catarineu, head of Bullet Sports Management, firmly denied this: “Nothing is signed, but the desire to keep Franco in Formula 1 is shared, including by Williams. That’s what the team is working on.”

Williams’ determination to secure Colapinto’s F1 future remains unwavering, ensuring an exciting turn in the transfer market animating the paddock.
