Sainz aims to challenge Red Bull and McLaren fiercely this weekend, playing down Ferrari’s chances as favorites.
Carlos Sainz met with the media in the Montreal paddock and stated he is determined to continue the team’s current good form.
“I think in the last few Grand Prix, we have consistently executed well on Sundays, maximizing our package’s potential,” said the Spaniard when asked if Ferrari stands a chance of winning in Canada.
“We must therefore maintain this approach here where, once again, we can expect very tight competition. So, to answer the question, it’s going to be very close and we need to keep our usual Sunday level and at the same time, prepare the settings perfectly.”
Sainz countered arguments from Red Bull and McLaren that paint Ferrari as the favourite this weekend.
“Based on what we’ve seen so far this season, it’s fair to consider Red Bull as the favourite, but we need to keep working because we are closing in and can put them under pressure so they don’t have such an easy time, possibly forcing them into some mistakes.”
Like many of his peers, Sainz is fond of the Montreal circuit.
“It’s an exciting and unusual track. In 2022, I battled with Max right up to the last corner, and it would be great to give Red Bull and McLaren a hard time again this weekend.”
