Carlos Sainz is at a pivotal point in his F1 career, outshining teammate Leclerc amid uncertainty over his future with Ferrari as Hamilton joins.
Sainz acknowledges he is on the brink of deciding his Formula 1 future. Yet, the Spaniard’s current form is so remarkable that he regularly outperforms his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, who has been retained by Ferrari for 2025 and beyond. However, Sainz finds himself without a seat as Lewis Hamilton is set to join the Scuderia.
Sainz is connected to several prospects at Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin, and notably at Sauber for its Audi F1 project in 2026.
“People already know how available I am and how fast I drive,” he shares.
“It’s regrettable not to continue next year given our quality relationship at Ferrari, with the mechanics and engineers. It does anger me a bit.”
“On the other hand, it’s true that it opens doors for me to join another team, to fight for the world championship, something we’ve been working on for three or four years at Ferrari.”
“The time has come to explore my options, to make significant decisions.”
Audi F1 has reportedly given him until mid-April to make a decision. Is this what he’s referring to? Or is he looking to shake up a currently stagnant transfer market because of the ongoing possibility of Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull for Mercedes F1?
Sainz neither confirms nor denies.
“I won’t comment on the options, teams, or discussions involved.”
Carlos Sainz’s father has been present at the Grand Prix so far this year to scout opportunities for 2025, but he was absent at Suzuka as he participated in a rally in Portugal.
He admits to some concern.
“He is very strong, yes, but at this point, we still don’t know what will happen with his future.”
“That’s what worries me the most. At least, Carlos is sending very strong messages, and we hope they will have an effect.”
Asked whether Ferrari should have retained his son over Leclerc for the future, Senior Sainz replied, “Logically, it wasn’t my decision, and I don’t think I’m the right person to comment on that appropriately.”
