Carlos Sainz reveals Williams F1 is intensely curious about his Ferrari past, with meetings consistently running over time as questions pile up.
Carlos Sainz revealed that Williams F1 and its engineers are highly curious about his past at Ferrari. The Spanish driver admits that all his meetings with the engineers run significantly longer than scheduled.
“I have a lot to share about my past, my previous life,” Sainz stated. “What matters most to me, and what I appreciate about this team, is its eagerness to hear me out, to listen, and to ask many questions.”
“In every meeting I attend, everyone feels free to ask these questions, and these meetings last a long time. In every session, we exceed the scheduled duration by an hour.”
He greatly enjoys the interest shown by his new team: “I see motivation, determination, enthusiasm—I see people who are ready to speed up the process and explore how my insights can help make this team competitive.”
“Without getting into the technical details of what I can bring, as that’s too complex, I feel that everything I’ve shared has been put into practice, and I believe it could make an impact soon.”
Alex Albon also communicates a lot with him: “I think Alex is extremely open with me about the secrets of the 2024 car, the 2023 car, and what we have done. This helps us combine both sets of feedback and try to find the right direction to take.”
Williams finished second-to-last in 2024, and James Vowles has been clear that the team remains focused this year on building its structure and preparing for the all-new 2026 regulations.
“I think the team is staying discreet for now,” Sainz responded when asked about his expectations for 2025.
“That doesn’t mean we are down or anything like that. I think it means the team knows this is a transition year toward 2026. It’s a year where the team wants to make a big step forward.”
“On the other hand, 2025—well, I know we have made progress, and I think the team is showing that progress, but to what extent can it allow you to fight for a podium? Honestly speaking, I think it’s relatively unlikely, but you never know.”
“I prefer to stay optimistic and at least wait for testing or the first race to see where we stand.”
