Carlos Sainz is set for the Williams F1 journey, prioritizing rapid team growth over immediate wins or podium finishes.
Carlos Sainz admitted he knows he won’t be fighting for wins and podiums in the coming years with Williams, but the Spaniard feels “well-prepared” for the challenge.
Sainz made his Williams F1 debut during post-season testing, which reportedly went well. However, neither he nor the team could comment on the matter, likely due to contractual obligations still tying him to Ferrari.
The new Williams driver immediately showcased his determination, finishing the post-season tests in second place behind his former Scuderia teammate, Charles Leclerc, while completing 146 laps at Yas Marina.
His fastest lap was two-tenths quicker than the qualifying times of Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto, in warmer conditions but with C5 tires modified for 2025.
“Honestly, people won’t believe it and can’t imagine how much I’m looking forward to what’s coming,” Sainz revealed.
“It may sound strange to some, but this project motivates me a lot. I’m eager to help a legendary team like Williams in F1 return to being a top team. Being part of that excites me greatly.”
“I know I won’t be fighting for wins and podiums in the next few years, but I don’t care. I’m well-prepared for it. I’ve done it with Ferrari, and my focus will be on making sure this period lasts as little as possible.”
“The way to approach a season like the one that just ended is never ideal. All the great years of the best athletes in history happen with a team that’s 100%, a future-focused project, and everyone pushing in the same direction… and yes, I noticed that Ferrari supported me at all times throughout the season.”
“But, like it or not, when you know you’re leaving at the end of the year, it’s complicated to manage.”
“We all managed to stay above it and continue giving everything. The end of the season was very positive and a sign of strength that I think will help me in my upcoming projects.”
