Magnussen accuses Sainz of halting F1 transfers, calling him ‘the bottleneck’ in the current market.
Kevin Magnussen has openly accused Carlos Sainz of causing a delay in the market for contract announcements and agreements for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Magnussen is one of the F1 drivers hoping to retain a seat for the upcoming season.
Sainz has admitted to receiving an offer from every team with a vacant seat for the 2025 season but confessed today that he is unsure of his choice. His likely destinations appear to be Williams or Audi.
When asked during the press conference in Barcelona what was causing the pause in the transfer season, Magnussen responded, “He is the bottleneck!” looking at Sainz with a slight smile. “Carlos is the bottleneck. I think many drivers are waiting for him to make a move, and one day he will have to do it. Eventually, all the other pieces of the puzzle will fall into place. That’s how it’s going to work.”
The Dane does not seem to be mentioned in teams other than Haas F1, a team that itself is looking to potentially change its two drivers, with Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, or Ollie Bearman frequently mentioned. Is he truly confident about keeping his place in F1? Isn’t he disturbed by still not knowing?
“Your entire year is dictated by Formula 1, so it’s hard not to know what your year will look like for you and your family in the next six months. But when I was younger, I was very afraid of losing this, which is not necessary. It’s a huge privilege to drive these cars in Formula 1, but I am much more relaxed than in the past. All decisions will probably be made in the coming weeks, and we’ll see how it all ends.”
Reading between the lines, Magnussen seems already quite resigned…
