Pirelli starts tyre testing at Le Castellet with Carlos Sainz completing 138 laps to aid 2025 tyre development.
Pirelli kicked off two days of private testing yesterday, Tuesday, at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, to further develop tyres for the 2025 season, marking the final year for the current 18-inch format.
In 2026, the 18-inch tyres will remain but will be narrower. This does not deter Pirelli from continuing to refine the structures and compounds for the last year under the current regulations.
These private tests, the fourth of the season after Barcelona, Jerez, and Suzuka, involve the two main drivers.
Carlos Sainz drove the SF-24 yesterday, primarily using the softest tyres. On the 1C-V2 configuration, the same used in recent French GPs, the Spaniard completed 121 laps. He added 17 more laps on a shorter, hotter circuit to address overheating issues, aiming to expand the tyres’ operating window.
Today, Charles Leclerc will take to the track, which will be artificially wet (as no rain is expected) to develop new wet and intermediate tyres.
