Sainz and Albon Racing Duo to Boost Williams F1 Revival

Sainz and Albon: A Strong, Easygoing Duo for Williams F1

08/02/2025

Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, two racing enthusiasts, aim to create a strong, harmonious partnership to elevate Williams F1’s performance.

James Vowles questioned Carlos Sainz about the Spanish driver’s strong reputation within the paddock. The Williams F1 team principal asked his new recruit how he approaches Formula 1 to help world championship teams progress.

“You’re highly respected in the paddock. First, there are very few drivers with experience across multiple world champion teams. That includes you with McLaren, Ferrari, and, over time, possibly here as well,” he said with a smile in a video posted on Williams’ YouTube channel.

“One of the things you’re known for is being part of a team that strengthens after your presence. You’ve also worked alongside Lando [Norris] at McLaren and Charles [Leclerc] at Ferrari.”

“So, what qualities do you think set you apart—those that give you this reputation as someone who helps build a team, grow, and thrive in a dynamic alongside fiercely competitive drivers?”

Sainz did not have a precise answer but explained his working methods and why he believes he will form a strong partnership with Alex Albon, who is expected to be his teammate for at least the next two seasons.

“I don’t know. Normally, I don’t like talking about myself or speaking too positively about myself, because I always feel it can come off as a bit arrogant or, let’s say, overly self-confident.”

“I can simply say that I always give my best to every team, whether it’s here at the factory or at the circuits. I always try to spend as much time as possible working together, doing so with a positive mindset.”

“In the end, we aim to bring more than just performance to the team—we try to create a good atmosphere and share with everyone the passion I have for this sport, which is huge.”

“I love racing. I love traveling to races. I love spending time with my engineers, going over setups, looking at the screens, analyzing everything. I’m a bit of a racing maniac, if you will, and I enjoy sharing that with those around me.”

“And I see Alex as someone very easygoing, like me—no nonsense, no politics, none of that. I think he’s a genuinely good person. I believe the two of us can form a very strong duo and help move the team forward with the right spirit. Honestly, I’m excited about it.”
