The FIA’s strict stance on swearing in F1 is causing friction, with Russell expecting discussions and Verstappen subtly protesting in Melbourne.

The FIA’s crackdown on swearing in F1 isn’t winning drivers over, even if the topic has been mostly brushed aside in Melbourne.

Max Verstappen kept his response short and sharp in the official press conference, a quiet yet clear protest.

GPDA director George Russell expects talks with the FIA to happen soon—maybe even this weekend in Melbourne.

“No one has reached out yet. I expect some discussions, and we’ve made it clear that all we want is an open dialogue with the FIA. Simple as that. We’ve already said enough about it, and honestly, there’s no need to dwell on it. Let’s focus on more exciting things.”

On a different note, Russell is pleased with Stefano Domenicali’s contract extension as F1 boss, highlighting his leadership—while subtly throwing shade at FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

“We’re all happy to see Stefano continue. F1 has only moved forward since he took over. He never settles, always pushes for more, and even though the sport is at its peak—maybe its highest ever—he knows there’s still room to grow. That’s the mindset we need.”

“I can’t speak for every driver, but I’m sure most of us support Stefano and trust his leadership. He’s open, transparent, and always ready to talk to us—that’s exactly what we expect from F1’s leadership.”
