Hamilton Unfazed by Poor Qualifying Form in 2024

01/06/2024

Lewis Hamilton remains focused despite struggling in qualifying this season, with teammate George Russell consistently outpacing him. Hamilton’s motivation and race performance stay strong amid challenges.

Lewis Hamilton insisted that he is “not dwelling” on his current issues to deliver the best possible qualifying lap with his Mercedes W15.

Hamilton is indeed a Saturday expert, with a record of 104 pole positions to his name, 36 more than Michael Schumacher, who is second.

However, the Briton has been outqualified by George Russell (7-1) in head-to-head qualifying since the start of the year.

Although he was among the top three positions during the three hours of free practice in Monaco, Hamilton was perplexed when he slipped to seventh place in qualifying.

“I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a priority in Monaco, but every weekend my priority is to improve our F1 everywhere.”

“It’s especially since the end of last year and then all this year that my form has been rather poor on Saturdays. But that’s how it is and I’ll keep working on it.”

“So far, I haven’t managed to be in the right window to deliver the absolute performance. But there are still many races left to solve this problem. And I have plenty of time to smooth out the issues with my performances and those of our F1.”

“So I don’t dwell on it too much. My race performances are still quite decent. Fortunately, I can rely on that for now.”

Nevertheless, Hamilton reiterated that his motivation remains unchanged even if Mercedes is in a position that does not allow him to aim for victories or even podiums.

When asked how difficult it was to stay focused knowing this, he assured: “I don’t find it that difficult, and I’m really honest.”

“I think when you really enjoy something and you really care about it, it’s up to you to decide if what you’re doing is still a priority, and it is a priority for me.”

“It’s something I love doing. I constantly feel challenged by it and by the people around me. And there’s never a boring day when you’re on a circuit. Except Thursday! No, I’m joking.”

“I enjoy the challenges both physically and mentally, but obviously, when it comes to teamwork, every year is just different.”

“It’s never what you expect. That’s the good thing about our sport: you’re always trying to improve. You don’t always succeed. And it’s not great when you don’t. But we’re on the right track now, for sure.”
