Russell Sees More Magic Ahead for Hamilton at Ferrari

George Russell remains confident in Lewis Hamilton’s abilities, predicting even greater performances from him as he adapts at Ferrari.

George Russell isn’t concerned about Lewis Hamilton struggling at Ferrari. Having spent three years alongside the seven-time world champion, Russell points out that Hamilton has already shown strong performances within the Scuderia. He believes even better results are ahead for the Maranello newcomer.

“We saw it in China, in the second race of the season. He was on pole for the Sprint and won the race comfortably. I know what he’s capable of, and it’s never easy joining a new team, especially with tough competition, but he’s an extraordinary driver. I’m confident that once things start clicking, like they did in China, we’ll see even more of that magic,” Russell states.

Russell also hopes Mercedes performs well in Jeddah, to solidify that the W16 has reached a level of versatility that its predecessors didn’t have: “It was a great race, a great weekend [in Bahrain]. It was kind of the validation we needed for the car on a completely different track.”

“There was a lot of tire overheating compared to the easy degradation we saw in Suzuka and China, to check if we designed a more versatile car, and clearly, we did. But I expect the competition to be tough this weekend. Red Bull had a difficult weekend, so I expect them to be fast here, just like in Suzuka.”

“Because there are similarities with high-speed corners and smooth tarmac. On the other hand, we have the softest tires, which is also a good thing. It’s what we’ve been looking for for a while, so I’m really happy to see that Pirelli has provided that.”
