As tensions escalate with the FIA, Russell and the GPDA assert driver unity, making their stance clear in a message directed at Ben Sulayem.
George Russell emphasizes that all 20 F1 drivers are “more united than ever” as they head into a new season filled with fresh tensions between the FIA and the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA).
The Mercedes F1 driver serves as a GPDA director and has been joined in this role by Carlos Sainz, who takes over the position left vacant by Sebastian Vettel.
“It’s great to have Carlos within the GPDA. He’s obviously a fantastic driver, a very intelligent and wise man, and he’s been around for a long time.”
“And of course, in the past, there was always more than one driver director, but since Sebastian retired, it’s just been me in recent years, so I’m glad that responsibilities can now be shared a bit more evenly between me and another driver.”
“But I think we’re in a good place, all 20 of us, and we’re probably more united than ever, especially with everything happening off-track.”
“And having Carlos as one of the senior voices as well, I think that’s a great asset.”
