Daniel Ricciardo will not participate in the Japanese GP’s first free practice, as RB F1 opts for a unique all-Japanese lineup, showcasing young talent Ayumu Iwasa alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

RB F1 will field an all-Japanese lineup with Ayumu Iwasa taking his place for the session, alongside fellow countryman Yuki Tsunoda.

Iwasa will complete one of the two free practice sessions dedicated to young drivers during the season, a requirement all teams must adhere to as per the regulations.

This isn’t the first instance of Red Bull’s sister team fielding a Japanese driver at the Suzuka circuit, having given Naoki Yamamoto a seat for the 2019 edition of the event.

“On Friday at Suzuka, we will be using our young driver Ayumu Iwasa for the trials, forming an All-Nippon team.”

“Furthermore, the Suzuka circuit is expected to suit the Racing Bulls.”

Iwasa, who has been part of the Red Bull junior program since 2021, is currently competing in the Super Formula championship after spending two seasons in Formula 2.

The 22-year-old driver secured five victories in F2, finishing fifth and fourth in the drivers’ standings in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The Suzuka outing will mark Iwasa’s FP1 debut, although he has already taken part in a F1 test session, with AlphaTauri during the end-of-season tests in Abu Dhabi last year.
