Ricciardo Eyes Improved F1 Performance

Ricciardo feels ‘supported’ at RB F1 but ‘wants to do better’.

02/06/2024

Despite feeling supported at RB F1, Daniel Ricciardo is determined to achieve consistent improvements, aiming to close the performance gap with his teammate and secure better results.

Recently, Peter Bayer and Laurent Mekies have expressed encouragement towards Daniel Ricciardo.

The RB F1 leaders still believe in the Australian, who, however, wants to perform better this year to achieve consistent good results.

“It’s great to hear this from Peter and Laurent, and yes, it would be fantastic, but I want to do better consistently,” explains Ricciardo, who wants to close the gap with Yuki Tsunoda. “Regarding the gap, maybe we’ll find something that explains why I’ve lost a bit here or there.”

“There will probably always be something. It’s F1, and it’s never perfect. I’m not satisfied with these gaps. I think that’s what frustrates me a bit. The team has been great, very supportive, and they know I can do it.”

“But it has been a bit more difficult this year to do it week after week, and that’s really what I’m focusing on now, rather than feeling too comfortable or too excited about what the future holds. I want to do better, whether it’s the car or myself.”

Ricciardo admits he hasn’t yet understood why he can’t reach the top 10 as often as his teammate: “I felt really good before the qualifying session. Obviously, two years ago, I had difficulties with McLaren.”

“I felt much better this time, but the reality is that the result isn’t much better. I want to try to look at myself and see what’s missing, then we’ll see what the car can bring to help me.”

“I think what’s frustrating is that I can do it, but it’s obviously not frequent enough, and that’s where I’m a bit frustrated with myself, trying to understand why the car isn’t regularly, week after week, a Q3 contender.”
