Daniel Ricciardo recognises the need for improvement if he is to secure a future with Red Bull Racing, despite recent challenges and competition.
Daniel Ricciardo acknowledges that he needs to improve if he wants to stay with Red Bull Racing, as Helmut Marko has confirmed Yuki Tsunoda’s place in the team for 2025. The Australian will compete with Liam Lawson for the second seat and admits his performances lack the consistency needed to claim it.
“I don’t think it means it’s over. I don’t see it as me not having a chance,” Ricciardo stated. “Personally, I achieved an extraordinary result in Miami.”
“But the rest of my season hasn’t met my expectations. I want my season to be better so I can seize the opportunities that arise. I am also realistic.”
“Every weekend might be a step forward… I always want things to progress faster. But I believe we are making strides. I still believe I can turn things around, do better. And yes, I need to give myself a kick up the backside. Obviously, if I’m still here next year, I’ll be happy.”
Ricciardo admits that securing a spot at Red Bull will be challenging: “When you’re fighting for a place at the top, you have to do quite impressive things. I don’t think it means it will never happen. It’s still a place I’d like to end my career. But clearly, in the short term, it’s not going to happen.”
The Australian explains the introspection he has undertaken to improve since a difficult start to the season: “I know I still have the speed. I might have had to work a bit too hard to fight for consistency recently.”
“Since Monaco, I’ve taken stock of myself. I don’t think everything needs to be overhauled, but it’s about making one or two changes here and there. Just giving me that little extra to have a better weekend and to keep the momentum going.”
