Verstappen Endures Frustrating Day as Red Bull Struggles

26/10/2024

Max Verstappen’s weekend began poorly as Red Bull faced reliability issues, resulting in a day of limited track time and frustration.

Red Bull faced a challenging start to the weekend, with an engine issue for Max Verstappen. The triple F1 world champion managed only 11 laps throughout the day and did not record a time in the second practice session. He believes his weekend will truly begin on Saturday.

“As for the engine situation, we are still checking,” Verstappen said. “I’m not entirely sure what’s going on. From my side, it’s been a very unproductive day. I did four or five laps; there’s not much to take from it at the moment. A day to forget.”

The Dutchman expressed no concern about the possibility of a penalty, a sentiment echoed by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko: “No, there will be no penalty. I’m confident we can resolve this issue.”

Sergio Pérez was more downbeat after a difficult day, highlighting a lack of performance: “The car doesn’t feel very good; we have some issues with low-speed handling. We still have work to do; we’re still far from the top.”

“The crowd here is incredible, and I wish we could be a bit more competitive for them, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. You never know—tomorrow, with the track changes, anything can happen. I hope that for qualifying, we can extract more from the car and give them something to cheer about.”
